Want to step into spring with an updated wardrobe? Here are some of the latest trends to hit the high street.

Girls in spring

The boyfriend’s jeans

Long live baggy, comfy boyfriend jeans! This time round, they’ve been revamped. Now they're cropped and cuffed instead. This means you can show off some cool footwear like platforms, gladiator sandals or glitzy flats.

You don’t need to buy a brand new pair of boyfriend jeans either. Use your old pair or steal a pair from your boyfriend or your brother. You can update them yourself by folding them up at the bottom until they reach halfway between your ankles and knees. Then sew on your own cuffs or buttons at the last fold so that they don’t roll out.

Fringe it

Fringes aren’t just for your hair anymore. Fringe detailed clothing is everywhere – from tops, shoes, bags and even jewellery. One good thing about this trend is that it suits everyone. If sandals with fringe detail make your feet look a bit big, then try fringed shoes instead. Or if you’re not into fringed tops, try something more discreet like a fringed clutch bag.

Sporty story

The academic year is nearly over, but don’t throw away your PE kit just yet - it has never been more fashionable. If you want to ditch your girly look for spring, then put on your tennis skirt, cropped jumper or top, knee-high socks and sweatbands.

You can even rock the sporty look on a night out. Short body con dresses, which are made of similar fabric as fitted gym clothes, are a cool step to an edgy sporty look.

Three fashion colours: girls

  • metallic golds
  • pastel shades
  • light wash denim

Boys in spring

Sylin’ in patchwork

Can’t get enough of one style? Patchwork designs on cardis, shirts and t-shirts are making a comeback. This means you can wear tie-dye, stripes, prints and chequered designs all at the same time – that is if you’re brave enough!

Try not to overdo the patchwork style or it'll look like a print company exploded all over you. Balance it out with a casual pair of jeans or trainers. If you're not ready to go print-crazy then you could cover up a patchwork shirt with a basic cardi.

Mark’s mark

Mark Ronson isn’t just famous for his catchy beats, he’s also known for his sense of style. His clean cut suits and use of bold colour schemes, plus his Elvis do means he’ll always stand out.

You can get his look by mixing smart-casual clothing with bold colours – try something like a bright purple blazer with beige trousers (or vice versa) for a retro Hollywood look.

If bright colours aren’t your thing then try a scruffy printed shirt with wayfarer sunglasses – you’ll be less ‘Hollywood’ Mark, and more ‘DJ’ Mark.

New-wave shoes

You probably haven’t heard of new-wave boat shoes but you’ve probably seen them on your granddad. They’re a mix between formal shoes and trainers – sort of like round toe loafers with thick laces that weave through the back.

They come in a whole bunch of colours and fabrics – from grey to multi-coloured panels in suede and leather. You can make them even funkier by mixing and matching different laces together.

Three fashion colours: boys

  • chocolate brown
  • fluorescent pink
  • purple
