n2k caught up with popstar Lil' Chris at the launch of School Aid which aims to raise cash and also give school children the chance to experience what it would be like to go to school in the developing world.
Other celebs also backing the cause include TV presenter Otis Deely, X Factor star Ray Quinn and Hollyoaks actor Devon Anderson. Hear what they all had to say about the campaign in our n2k video.
No school?
Everyone complains about going to school sometimes but what would life be like if you didn’t have access to education at all? Did you know that there are 100 million children around the world that don’t receive an education as a direct result of poverty?
The School Aid Roadshow is a year long campaign which will be going round schools in the UK and recreating a rural Kenyan village, complete with its own school and even animals!
World Vision
The project is organized by a charity called World Vision and the National Association of Head Teachers. It aims to educate school children in the UK about global poverty and to raise £500,000 to help benefit 500,000 children in Kenya, India, Cambodia, Laos and Sudan. The money will go right back into educational projects such as building schools, buying basic classroom equipment and training teachers.
The year long campaign is also part of a bigger goal set by the United Nations – for every child of primary school age to have access to education by 2015.
Rock school
Who better to be representing the campaign from the world of music than Rock School’s own Lil’ Chris?
“I’m really proud to be an ambassador for School Aid. So many kids in poor countries don't even have school classrooms - they have to work outside in the boiling heat!”
