Welcome to 2010; it’s going to be a big year! n2k previews events to look out for in politics, music and sport. Plus, start the year with a bang - win tickets to Underage Festival.

May - Politics

In 2005, Gordon Brown and the Labour Party won the 2005 UK general election with 35.3 per cent of the vote. This year the Labour Party’s term will come to an end and the PM is soon expected to announce when the next general election is set to take place. By law it must occur before 3rd June.

The legal age to vote is 18. Currently there are campaigns taking place to try to lower the age to 16. Young celebrities such as Eastenders’ Melissa Suffield (Lucy Beale) have been travelling up and down the UK all year to speak to people who are for and against the campaign. Want to get involved? Visit Votes at 16.

Check out the general election discussion board to voice your opinions on the election.

June - Sport

The World Cup is undoubtedly one of the biggest world sporting events. The 2010 World Cup will take place in South Africa beginning 11th June. 32 of the world’s greatest teams will compete against each other in a bid to claim the cup.

n2k predict big things for some of the teams competing. Here are the ones the look out for.

Tickets for the event are expected to be snapped up almost straight away, so FIFA have published a few tips on how to increase your chances of bagging one. Find out more here.

June - Music

The first ever Glastonbury Festival took place in 1970. Back then the venue capacity was only 1,500 and, believe it or not, ticket prices were only £1 – this included free milk from a nearby farm. The festie has gone a long way since then and last year 134,000 people attended. Check out photos from some of the performances in past years.

n2k were there in 2008 to cover Youth Music’s Build a Band Competition. The challenge? To build a band in three days, write and rehearse, then go live on the Leftfield Tent in front of thousands of spectators. Read the full story here.

Unfortunately tickets have already sold out for this year’s event! You can however, sign up to be in with a chance of grabbing any cancellations.

This year there’ll be performances from the likes of Lily Allen, Lady Gaga, The Ting Tings, Black Eyed Peas and Calvin Harris. If you don’t manage to get tickets then you can still catch these artists and more during coverage on TV and online.

August - Music

The hottest event of the year for anyone aged between 14-18 years old has to be Underage Festival. It takes place on 1st August and features the very latest acts.

October - Sport

At the age of 15 Tom Daley became the youngest World Diving Champion. By the end of 2009 he had also claimed the title of BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year which recognises young athletes who have made contributions to British sport.

Look out for him in the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi where Tom hopes to successfully complete a ‘Twister’ – one of the toughest dives in the world. "Back two and a half somersaults with two and a half twists," explains Tom.

October - Music

Joe McElderry may have been beaten to the No.1 spot by Rage Against the Machine, but he’s still one to watch out for this year. The gossip mill says that he could well have the fastest selling debut album of all time!

The name of his debut album is expected to be released in October this year. Watch this space.
