Are you in a bromance or do you know someone who is? Do problems ever arise because of it? Here are some ways to help smooth the situation.

What is a bromance?

A bromance is a really close friendship between two boys. Though they're not attracted to each other in any way at all, some people jokingly call it a 'man-crush'.

Is it healthy?

Completely. Guys in a bromance are just like every other pair of best friends. They tell each other everything and spend a lot of time together.

Some boys often feel like they have to put up a front when they’re with their mates. But guys who are in a bromance usually feel that they can be themselves.

Bromantic problems

Unfortunately, bromances can cause some tension between the two mates involved and their girlfriends.

If you and your other half are having problems, you both need to pull together to make your relationship work.

"I’m in a bromance and my girlfriend has a problem with it."

If your girlfriend is feeling a little left out then why don’t you ask her to hang out with you and your mate? She’ll probably be really happy that you’ve invited her along, and she’ll feel more at ease.

Unfortunately, the bromance could also leave your girlfriend feeling a little jealous. They may feel that you don't share your thoughts and feelings with them anymore. Let your girlfriend know that this isn’t the case. Just because you have another best buddy doesn’t mean she means any less to you. Explain that you just need some guy time once in a while.

"My boyfriend is in a bromance and I have a problem with it."

If you’re feeling frustrated with the amount of time your boyfriend spends with his buddy, then be honest. Remember, your boyfriend isn’t a mind reader. Tell him you’re feeling a little ignored.

Why don’t you spend some alone time with your boyfriend’s mate? Find out what all the fuss is about.

Also think about your relationships with your gal pals. Don't they mean a lot to you? Try to understand that your boyfriend needs mates like that in his life.

Your opinions

Would you date someone who was involved in a bromance?

In a recent survey conducted by a dating organisation, 45 per cent of female participants said they didn’t see what the problem was. 23 per cent however, said they thought bromantic relationships were okay but a little bit weird.

The remaining 32 per cent said they were against it completely. The main reason they gave for their answer was that they wanted their other half’s attention all to themselves.

Famous bromances

Many famous bromances have popped up in recent years, in real life and on screen. Some of them include:-

  • J.D and Turk from Scrubs
  • Chace Crawford and Ed Westwick from Gossip Girl
  • Brody Jenner and Frankie Delgado from The Hills
