Who said museums were boring? Here’s the lowdown on a bunch of sites around the UK that are anything but dull.

British Music Experience

Popular music is the theme at the British Music Experience in London. It looks back at 60 years of British music and events that have influenced other genres such as art and fashion. For instance, you can check out original clothing worn by famous stars like Geri Halliwell's Union Jack dress.

The best thing about the museum is that practically everything is interactive. The Gibson Interactive Studio lets you try out your skills on guitar, bass and drums, and you can even rock out on vocals. Meanwhile the The Beat Goes On lets you travel back in time to concerts that rocked the house - huge screens show montages of concerts by Oasis, Radiohead and more.

Don’t throw away your ticket once you leave the museum though! When you get home log in to your own personal online profile on the BME website and listen back to everything you recorded in the Gibson Interactive Studio.

Check out what else you can do.

Glasgow Science Centre

If you’re into all things science and technology, then the Glasgow Science Centre is the one for you. It mixes hundreds of strange and unique exhibitions that make learning just that little bit more fun.

The Science Mall is packed with loads of interactive exhibits and workshops that get you up close and personal with different scientific experiments. Find out about creepy crawlies, mix your facial features with a celebrity’s, or watch the 'Inside DNA Show'. It’s up to you. Our favourite feature, however, is the Science Show Theatre which lets you watch live and explosive experiments right before your eyes.

National Media Museum

The National Media Museum in Bradford is the home of all things film, television, radio, photography and web – and it’s a cool place for anyone who’s interested in a career in these industries too.

You’ll get to see what it’s like in a studio and can even get behind a camera. Or you could take a virtual tour around the streets of Corrie.

To top things off there is an IMAX theatre which is currently screening big hits including Star Trek. Read our review.

Cadbury World

Step in to Cadbury World in Birmingham. There are 14 zones where you can explore everything about the chocolate - including the history, the science and the making of it.

Plus, it’s home to the biggest Cadbury shop in the world. You’ll get to find out and buy some of your favourite types of chocolate as well as some you’ve never seen or heard of before.

Be warned though, there’ll be a lot of liquid chocolate around – this may or may not be a good thing.

Museum Of Childhood

The Victoria & Albert Museum Of Childhood in Bethnal Green, London, is all about taking a step back in to, you guessed it, your childhood. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s child’s play though. Through creative collections, programmes and events, the museum is fun for both young people and adults.

The museum runs monthly movie screenings of some of the best family classics – this month it is showing ‘Matilda’.
