Get ready for mocks

Thursday 14 December 2006
If you're taking your mock exams after Christmas, take a look at our guide to making sure you're all set.
Make a plan
Mocks may not be the real thing, but you'll still need to revise for them. Work out a plan of what you're going to do and when.
How strictly you stick to the plan is up to you, but try and be realistic about the amount you're going to get done.
Eat right
Though you might want to pork out over Christmas, make sure that you're eating loads of healthy stuff, too. Junk food can make you sluggish and won't be good brain food.
Healthy stuff will help you concentrate and have you brimming over with energy. Take a look at some suggestions.
Get some sleep
There's no harm in enjoying yourself, but try and make sure that you get enough sleep and aren't starting back at school exhausted.
You can't compensate for pulling all-nighters with a few early nights, so it's best to have a regular sleep pattern. If you break it, just try and get back on the regular pattern as soon as you can.
Don't worry
It's a waste of time worrying over your mocks; spend the time revising instead. If you're freaking out about whether you'll do well in the exams, don't. You can only do your best and focusing on the end result as opposed to the here and now will mean you're neglecting your revision time.
Just do the best you can from now on; what's done is done.
Ask questions
Take advantage of your teachers! Ask them questions about key areas you need to study, any tips they might have to help you revise more efficiently.
Don't overdo it and take time out
Don't stay chained to your desk all over Christmas. The thought of everybody having fun without you will just depress you. Make sure you give yourself some free time to think about something else.
Treat yourself
Reward yourself after a study session. It's probably best not to reward yourself with a huge night out, but do a spot of shopping in the sales or finish off a few leftovers to congratulate yourself on some revision well done.
