Studying the art of shopping
Do you love fashion and always know about the lastest trends well ahead of your mates? Would you like to get into the fashion industry but aren't sure how to do it?
Working in fashion is not just about being a model or a designer, there are many jobs on the retail side as well which are just as exciting. The Fashion Retail Academy in London teaches young people between 16 and 18 all they need to know about working in the world of fashion retail. So when n2k were invited to take a look around, we jumped at the chance.
What you can study
The Academy runs a couple of one year diplomas covering everything from store management to customer services, buying and design and even the history of fashion and fashion forecasting. The courses include a lot of work-based learning with visits to suppliers and distribution centres and students get the chance to try a whole range of roles by going on work placements at different shops.
From dressing the window at a major department store to learning about fashion PR, there's an opportunity to try a little bit of everything . Students also attend lectures by industry dons and meet some of the big players in the fashion world including possibly a supermodel or two!
Take a look at our video see what some of the students had to say about a typical day.
