Some boys can be quite shy when it comes to looking after their body – but don’t fear, it’s natural to want to look good. We’ve got some helpful tips to get you on your way.

Skin clean

It’s a pain and it’s not fair but teenage years are when your skin will go through the most! This is due to hormonal changes, excess oil production not to mention sweat and air and water pollution which also contribute to spots.

Use face and body wash to keep your skin as clean as possible. Also exfoliators remove dead skin cells and keeps blackheads at bay. Toner helps improve skin tone and tighten pores.

See this guide on how to avoid blackheads.

Always buy products that are suitable for your skin type- dry/sensitive, normal, oily or combination.

Even the most talked about skincare product can do no good on your skin if it’s not suitable for it. If you’ve got oily, spot prone skin then stick to non-greasy, fragrance free and as natural as possible products. Basically this means go organic. Many products out there are full of modified ingredients that could actually damage your skin for the long run.

Hair here

Facial hair can be a bit annoying as it picks up dirt easily and makes skin oilier, so it’s really important to get a face wash that keeps skin balanced. If you’ve been running around all day then all over cleansers will get the dirt and grime build up off of your skin.

Shaving woes

It’s really important to shave properly too otherwise you could be left with strange hair growth, cuts and scars. A rich shaving gel or a razor that contains a soothing aloe vera patch which nourishes and moisturizes your skin, whilst also preparing it for a shave, will help prevent this.

Check out this videojug for step by step instructions on how to wet shave.

Healthy locks

Most boys don’t have as much locks as girls, making them think that they don’t have to take care of it.

Although 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioners can make life seem a little easier, it’s actually better to use separate products. If you’ve got a short trim then you really only need to condition twice a month – also use products that are ideal for any hair problems you may have such as dandruff, oil or frizzy locks.

Towel drying is probably the healthiest form of drying, but doing it the wrong way can damage hair. Always rub gently and squeeze any excess water out – careful not to pull too hard.

When styling, always make sure your hair is fully dry otherwise your style simply won’t last the day. Look out for gels and wax that give you the look you want i.e. wet or natural look.

Bare grin

Dirty teeth or bad breath is not a good look, especially when it can be easily avoided. Use a toothbrush that works for the shape of your mouth and also anti-plaque mouthwash and dental floss – it takes a bit of time but could save your teeth later on.
