Beauty rescue

You’ve got a hot date or you’re going to a party or a really important event and you want to look your best. But suddenly, a beauty disaster strikes!
Take a deep breath, don’t panic, n2k has a few tips of what to do when things go wrong.
No fuss
It may seem like the end of the world to you but most people probably won’t notice. It’s best not to start telling everyone that will listen about the nightmare you’ve had because this will only bring attention to the problem!
If you’re on a first date bringing up the mishap continuously could make it seem worse than it is. If you really have to mention it, make a joke and move on. At least then you will be showing that you can laugh at yourself but are not overly obsessed with your appearance.
Bad hair
Had a new hair cut but it hasn’t turned out quite like you wanted? A lot of the time the problem isn’t actually with the hair cut itself but the way that it has been styled.
The first step is to go home and restyle your hair as you would normally do it. If you’re a girl there’s also always the option of pulling your hair back into a pony tail or using a head band. Use it as an opportunity to be creative and get your friends round to help. For both girls and boys there’s also the option of a cool hat!
Fake mistake
Most self tanning lotion is pretty good these days but what do you do if you end up a weird shade of orange or with stripes on your legs? One step you can take is to shower and lightly scrub your body. This will calm down the colour and lessen the effect. Wiping off with moisturizer also helps.
Highlight lows
What do you when the highlights go wrong? It is always best to point out the problem to the hairdresser straight away. Remember that as a consumer you have a right to get a good product and that includes not having weird highlights. See our n2k article for advice on how to make a complaint. The hairdresser will probably offer to do something to tone down the colour and take it down a shade.
If you’re already home by the time you notice the blunder then perhaps it’s time to go dig in the wardrobe for that cool hat again.
Remember that you can still go back to the hairdressers the next day. Most will be willing to help if you point out politely why you felt your highlights, or haircut have gone wrong.
Laugh
You're not alone. There’s not a person in the whole world who can say that they haven’t had at least one embarrassing moment in their lives to do with their appearance. Try to learn to laugh things off. Being able to laugh at yourself sometimes, shows that you are a strong individual and others will be able to laugh with you and not at you.
Have you had a beauty or first date disaster? How did you cope? n2k wants to hear from you.
