5 Things u need2know

  1. There are 8.6 million disabled people in Britain, which is one in seven of the population.
  2. Disabled people in the UK are protected in law by the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
  3. The word 'disability' in the Act means a physical or mental impairment that affects your day-to-day life and is long term.
  4. If an employer has 15 employees or more, they cannot discriminate during recruitment, prevent training or ignore the needs of a person with a disability.
  5. All new buses and trains now have to be built in a way that gives people more accessibility.
