If you've just moved into a new place, there are a few things you can do to make sure your landlord's doing the right thing.

Nearly everyone has a story about a problem landlord. But not all are bad. Why not find out what to do if you do get a dodgy landlord?

The landlord is responsible for the structure of the building.
If a repair needs to be done, contact the landlord before attempting to fix the problem yourself.
If allowed, try to decorate in 'neutral' colours.
When considering a property, you should always check whether a letting agent will be your first point of contact.
If you are in dispute with a landlord about something and a fair arrangement seems likely, seek independent advice.
